Welcome to the Building Solar News BLOG. This is my first post to just get things rolling.
I’m Wes Waddell and along with my wife Kathy, we will be building our own solar home using both high thermal mass (HTM) passive solar and active solar Photo Voltaic (PV) panels.
We are located just north of Spokane Washington and just south west of Deer Park Washington. We have 20 acres that includes a south and east facing tree covered hillside and flat farm land. It’s perfect to apply all the passive and active solar techniques to create a home that is both highly energy efficient and beautiful to look at.
Stay tuned as we do the research, design and plan the home and begin the green construction process.
We are just getting started and look forward to you joining us in the process and helping out with your comments and information.
Step one, will be the road into the property (it’s just a farm access road now), putting in the well and other utilities… we’ll also begin the design phase based on initial research and begin the process of dealing with contractors and the bank.

Congratulations on your new site. Can’t wait to see how your new dream solar home progresses with the green building/construction process.
I really excited to hear how your use of both HTM passive solar and active PV solar works out. This will be the first non straw bale home I’ve heard of in the northwest. I hope you’ll be providing lots of photos and even video as it progresses.
With the rising cost of energy… you are definitely one of the leaders of low construction cost green solar building systems.
